Metal Braces

Traditional Metal braces are made from a high-grade stainless steel and have metal brackets that are attached to each tooth using a type of cement. The brackets are linked to each other with a thin arch wire, which puts pressure on the teeth to cause them to move slowly into the correct position.

The arch wires are connected to the brackets using tiny elastics known as ligatures or O-rings, which your orthodontist will change each time he tightens the braces.

ADVANTAGES :

Traditional braces are more effective in treating extreme overcrowding than other options like clear braces or clear aligners and are less expensive. When it comes to the most severe orthodontic cases, metal braces are the best option.

They provide the orthodontist the control he/she needs to move the teeth.

Metal braces offer the advantage of speed. Metal braces can do, in less time, what other teeth straightening options will take longer to achieve due to smoother shifting between wires and braces

Wearing these types of braces also means that you don’t have to worry about ever misplacing your aligners.

Today’s braces are more visually appealing than in past years, with a range of color options for both the brackets and the elastics.

Cost of treatment with metal braces is most economical in comparison to other methods of treatment

DISADVANTAGES

The main disadvantage of traditional braces is the metal mouth appearance. Metal braces can leave people feeling very selfconscious, and there really is no way to hide them.

Discomfort is another disadvantage that braces can bring. It can be painful for your teeth when braces are first put on, and it might take few days for the pain to subside. You will have to get them tightened, as well, which can also leave your teeth feeling sore.

Avoid chewy foods, like caramels or other soft candies, as well as very hard or crunchy foods that could damage your braces. Certain fruits and vegetables can get stuck in your braces, and should be cut into small pieces.

Taking proper care of your teeth is always important even more when you are on braces. Brushing and flossing regularly will keep your braces looking good and help you avoid staining to your teeth.

Frequent visit to the doctor is required.

Unlike Clear Aligners you won’t be able to remove the braces on your own. You have to wear them throughout the treatment.
